Prune the Tree: Tyler Norton’s Lessons for Building With More Focus

Tyler Norton’s Training: Lessons for Building with More Focus
Tyler Norton recently shared a training that really stuck with us—because it challenged us to think differently about where we’re putting our energy.

Check out Tyler Norton's full training here:
Key takeaways:
Tyler used the analogy of pruning a fruit tree.
A healthy tree doesn’t grow by sending equal amounts of nutrients to every branch. Sometimes branches need to be pruned so the tree can put more of its energy toward the places that are actually producing fruit.
Business can work the same way.
Sometimes growth isn’t about doing more.
Sometimes it’s about getting clearer about where your time, attention, and energy belong.
1. PRUNE THE TREE
We’ve all done it.
You have someone you’re excited about. You see their potential. Maybe you remind them about calls, send them information, check back in, encourage them, follow up again...and again.
At some point, you can be putting more energy into their business than they are.
That doesn’t mean you stop caring about people.
It means you stop trying to carry them.
Tyler’s point was simple:
Prune the tree.
Put your energy into the people who are growing, learning, showing up, and taking action.
You can always welcome someone back when they’re ready. But constantly feeding a branch that isn’t growing takes energy away from the rest of the tree.
2. STOP TRYING TO CHANGE THEIR EYE COLOR
This may have been one of our favorite lines from the entire training.
There’s a difference between someone who is looking at something and someone who is looking for something.
Our job isn’t to turn every person we meet into someone who wants what we have.
That’s exhausting.
And unnecessary.
Some people simply aren’t looking right now.
Let them be.
There are other people actively looking for better health, more income, more flexibility, community, purpose, or simply another option.
Go find them.
You don’t need everyone.
You need the people who get it and want it.
3. BE CONVICTED ENOUGH THAT YOU DON’T NEED
TO CONVINCE
There’s a big difference between conviction and convincing.
Conviction says:
I know what I believe.I know what I’ve experienced.I know why I’m here.And I’m willing to share it.
Then you let the other person decide.
When we become overly attached to someone saying yes, our conversations change.
We push harder.
We explain more.
We keep trying to overcome every objection.
Tyler’s reminder was one worth remembering:
Be convicted enough that you don’t need to convince.
Tell the story.
Share the information.
Answer the questions.
Then give people room to make their own decision.
4. HIGH ACTIVITY IS THE GREAT LIBERATOR
One of the reasons we become so attached to one person saying yes is because we don’t have enough people in motion.
If you’ve talked to two people this week, every response feels enormous.
If you’re consistently meeting people, starting conversations, inviting, following up, and sharing, one person’s response doesn’t carry nearly as much weight.
Activity creates perspective.
Someone says no?
Fine.
Someone says not now?
Fine.
Someone doesn’t respond?
Keep moving.
You aren’t depending on one person to build your business.
That’s why high activity is the great liberator.
WHERE IS YOUR ENERGY GOING?
Take a look at your week.
Are you spending most of your time trying to motivate people who aren’t moving?
Trying to convince people who aren’t looking?
Waiting on one or two people to make a decision?
Or are you continuing to expand the circle?
The goal isn’t to care less about people.
It’s to become much more intentional about where you invest your time.
Prune the tree. Find the people who are looking. Stay convicted. Keep moving.
That’s how the tree grows.
